Minimal waiting times and high-quality care at your fingertips with care at Midland Eye Clinic

What is dry eye syndrome?
Dry eye syndrome, or dry eye disease, is a common condition that occurs when the eyes don't make enough tears, or the tears evaporate too quickly. This leads to the eyes drying out and becoming red, swollen and irritated. In most cases symptoms are mild, although in more severe cases symptoms can be painful and worsen throughout the day. Symptoms usually affect both eyes and can include:

  • Feeling of dryness, grittiness or soreness
  • Burning sensation and red eyes
  • Eyelids that stick together when waking up
  • Temporarily blurred vision, which usually improves when blinking
  • Eye fatigue
  • Some people may also have episodes of watering eyes, which can occur if the eyes try to relieve the irritation by producing more tears.

At Midland Eye we are experts in providing Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment for patients with dry eye syndrome. IPL is the latest, pain-free and effective way to treat dry eye related to Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). It has been shown to improve tear quality and improve patient-reported symptoms.

Midland Eye is a specialist eye clinic led by the UK’s leading ophthalmology consultant doctors.
